What Do I Do If I Have a Burst Pipe?

Modified on Wed, 20 Dec 2023 at 07:34 PM

A burst pipe can be a major headache, causing water damage, disruption, and potentially expensive repairs.

Knowing what to do in the event of a burst pipe can help you minimize the damage and get things back to normal as quickly as possible.

  • Identify the Problem:
    • The first step in handling a burst pipe is identifying the problem. Signs of a burst pipe can include a sudden loss of water pressure, water stains on walls or ceilings, or the sound of running water when no fixtures are in use. If you suspect a burst pipe, turn off the main water supply immediately.

  • Contain the Damage:
    • Once you have turned off the main water supply, you will need to contain the damage. This might involve placing buckets or towels under the leak to catch any water that is still coming out. You may also need to shut off electricity to the affected area to prevent any electrical hazards.

  • Notify Habyt Team:
    • The final step is to notify Habyt about the situation to dispatch a maintenance technician to assess the damage and make any necessary repairs. Be sure to provide them with as much information as possible, including the location and extent of the damage. To do so, please create a Help Request through our Member's Portal or your Habyt App.
